I was born in Alabama and grew up in many locations around the country. I lived for many years in Ohio, and for the past twelve years have lived at Lake Norman with my husband and our Siamese cats. My two adult sons live in Columbus, Ohio.
I have enjoyed drawing and painting since childhood. I was awarded a scholarship and attended Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. I have continued my art education by participating in many workshops and classes including watercolor workshops with Zoltan Szabo, Sterling Edwards and Linda Kemp; and acrylic workshops with Mary Todd Beam, Robert Burridge and Phil Garrett. I have also studied pastel painting with master pastelist, George Thompson.
Living and boating on Lake Norman provides daily inspiration from the breathtaking colors of sunrises and sunsets to the ever changing views of the lake and the fascinating local wildlife. The cats are also the subject of several of my paintings, as well as pictures to save memories of trips to other places and abstract pieces just for the fun of it.
I am an active member of the Mooresville Artist Guild and the Lake Norman Art League. I strive to use shapes, patterns, colors and values to make new visual statements that other people will enjoy seeing as much as I enjoy creating them. I'm trying to look beyond what is obvious and reach inside for a different way of seeing and presenting images and ideas. Experimenting and working with many different media and different styles is exciting. I'm currently working in watercolors, acrylics, pastels, collage and mixed media.
I have received many awards for my work, and my watercolor painting "Morning Rigging" was awarded an honorable mention in the 2005 Best of North Carolina competition. I have had solo exhibitions at the Depot Visual Arts Center in Mooresville, NC, the LKN Deli and Cafe in Mooresville, NC, and the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle, NC. My work has also been exhibited in the Lake Norman Art League juried fall show, the Stanly Art Guild Summer Art Explosion, the Charlotte Art League CAL gallery, the Cornelius Town Hall, the Huntersville Town Hall, The Jetton Village Arts and Crafts Show in Cornelius, the Point Lake and Gold Club in Mooresville, and the Cotton Ketchie Arts Festival in Mooresville. My work is represented in many private collections throughout the country. |
